Last week some stories were published about a report that claimed manufacturing issues were forcing Apple to delay the mass production of several new products, including the iPhone 5S. Now a report from Reuters says the company has indeed pushed its planned production from June to later in the summer or the early fall.
The culprit for the delay is apparently related to Apple’s fingerprint scanner, which is expected to launch on the iPhone 5S under the home button. Apple is fighting to get a coating for the iPhone that works properly with the mechanism. The news outlet says it also confirmed that Apple will indeed launch a cheaper iPhone and that the device will sacrifice some features, such as the fingerprint scanner, and will ship with a plastic body to keep costs down.
