Non-Repair Phone Issues: Flares and Signal Concerns

In part one of this multi-part blog series, we went over some of the basics on smartphone issues that may seem like they require repairs, but in fact are being caused by environmental or other temporary concerns. Modern smartphones are very advanced, and their issues in certain situations may look similar to the concerns that arise when a phone is broken and requires repair – but certain signs will tip you off that this is not the case. At FixIT Mobile, we’re happy to offer a wide range of phone repair services for both iPhone and Android users – but we’ve also informed many clients when the issues they’re noticing don’t actually signal disrepair, but rather certain environmental or other scenarios that are causing unusual phone behavior, from those you can’t control to your own bad habits. These can typically be remedied in simple ways, such as moving to a new location or removing the effect that’s taking place on the phone. Here are three other such effects or location-related themes that may play a role in your phone’s performance, plus what you can do about each of them.

Solar Flares

A solar flare, which refers to a sudden flash of increased brightness that comes from the sun, is something that can impact many smartphones if they are out when it takes place. These flares come in various magnitudes and severities, but have been known to interrupt long-range communications and emissions in several ways.

Unfortunately, there’s not a ton you can do here besides ensuring your phone is protected with a case and skin, which will certainly help. Solar flares are not exactly common, however, and those that are actually strong enough to disrupt your phone are even less frequent.

Subterranean Areas

For those who work or spend time in subterranean areas, including for vacation or pleasure, cell phone service often will not be the same as in normal areas. Specifically, you’ll usually have to have an engineer come out and wire a subterranean area to allow for a strong phone signal, as most normal carriers will not provide service to these areas. This is almost never a repair issue with the actual phone, something you should recognize when you’re in these areas.

Building Materials and Signal

You may not have realized it, but there are several construction and building materials that may impact the signal for a smartphone. These include energy-efficient glass materials, which are often thicker, plus many metals. If your phone is very close to these and is losing signal, chances are it’s due to material interference rather than any internal phone malfunction.
