Stopping iPhone Broken Screens from Worsening

Feb 1, 2022

If your iPhone's screen has become broken during a period where you can't immediately bring it in to a phone repair specialist for assistance, you might be tempted to panic. However, there's really no need -- there are some very simple approaches you can take to ensuring any broken screen issues don't get worse while you wait for the opportunity to receive professional assistance.

At FixIT Mobile, we're happy to offer the best smartphone repair services in Utah, serving clients for numerous issues, including broken screens. What if your screen damage takes place at night while we're closed, or at another time when you can't make it into one of our locations immediately? Here's how to manage the problem and ensure it doesn't worsen while you wait for a chance to come see us.

Don't Panic

First and foremost, there's no need to panic. A broken screen is inconvenient, but it's not the end of the world -- until you decide to take steps that cause further damage to your iPhone. There are a few important things you want to avoid doing until after you have an opportunity to visit us for repair or replacement services. Here's what not to do:

  • Don't try repairs with your hands: While it may be tempting to try "fixing" your screen using bare hands while you're waiting for assistance, you'll only end up making things worse. There's a good chance that attempting to repair an unresponsive display will result in further damage -- and there's really no reason to take the risk when help is available.

  • Don't be clumsy: While handling the phone with more care is already something you should do regardless of whether or not its screen is broken, it's even more important to do so if the screen isn't working. The last thing you want to do is accidentally drop your device and worsen an already terrible predicament.

Apply Temporary Sealant

In some cases, you may already have purchased (or may be close to a store that sells) a compound known as cyanoacrylate, which you can apply to any cracks in your iPhone's screen. The compound, which can be applied using a simple applicator that comes with the bottle, fills in cracks and seals the display to ensure that liquid or other foreign materials do not seep into the phone.

However, you should only consider doing this as a temporary measure until you're ready to come into our stores for assistance. Cyanoacrylate is not the ideal liquid to use on an iPhone, because it can filter through screens and cause further damage inside of the device. Also, it doesn't provide enough support for your phone's display -- so you need to be careful about handling your iPhone until after you receive professional repair services.

And finally, at your first available opportunity, come see us for professional repair services performed by our highly skilled specialists. It's unlikely that a broken screen will cause further damage to your iPhone, but it's still better to be safe than sorry.
